RIB: RADIO STATION IN A BOX
A high power remote-controlled HF radio station for rapid field deployment for emergency, military and amateur use.
In times of natural disasters and other emergencies, time is of the essence. The timely availability of effective communications can make the difference between life and death. When the power and communications infrastructure are heavily damaged, HF radio is often the only low-cost, long-distance communications method available. Because HF radio uses the ionosphere to refract radio waves, it is independent of any terrestrial infrastructure and is not destroyed or effected by natural disasters. The downside of high-power HF radio for emergency communications is the long time that it takes to set-up a high-performance station.

The RIB is a complete station that integrates into a single weather-tight box a modern SDR transceiver, a 1 kW power amplifier, all power supplies, and remote-control management hardware and software. It only needs the power to be plugged-in at one end and the antenna at the other. It can be remotely controlled via a radio bridge, Ethernet or WiFi. Unlike a traditional HF station, it can be deployed in minutes. Because it is weather-proof, the RIB does not require a building or shelter. Its power supplies are specially designed to work off emergency generators, with features for improved fuel efficiency. Using a RIB, a complete station can be operational in 30 to 40 minutes.
Radio Amateur

The RIB is the solution for radio amateurs who want to activate remote, environmentally sensitive locations where government agencies restrict camping and limit access. The RIB can be installed on a island by a small crew and remotely operated from a nearby boat, completely eliminating the need for camping on the island. Because of its rapid deployment, the RIB also makes the operation more effective: no time has to be wasted on building and supporting an infrastructure. Instead, the DXpedtion can be operational within hours of arrival, making more of its limited time. It is also much easier to clean up after a RIB based operation. There is no human waste, thrash and other foreign objects left behind.
Military

HF radio is often the only choice for militaries without extensive military satellite systems. The RIB allows for the rapid set up of a high-performance HF station with long range capabilities, that can be easily moved to suit rapidly changing tactical situations. RIBs are more portable, easier to hide and significantly cheaper than truck or trailer-based radio stations. Because they can be operated remotely, they do not expose the operators (and headquarters personnel) to anti-radiation weapons. Again, the rapid deployment and extraction times combined with the limited footprint setup makes the RIB unit ideal for operations where a low profile and minimal trace presence is desirable.
